Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Election Commissioner has resolved remaining election petitions, awarding additional seats to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and finalizing the regional assembly’s composition. The PPP now holds 11 seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured six. Four seats went to independent candidates who recently joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), with two seats won by candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and one by the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen. The decisions followed challenges to initial results (Form-47) and a period of suspended results while the CEC reviewed arguments. Protests occurred following the initial count in GBA-16, with demands for re-polling, though a re-poll order was later cancelled. Remaining seats, reserved for women and technocrats, will be allocated proportionally. The election, held on June 7th, saw a 70% voter turnout, though the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has raised concerns regarding the electoral process.
