Central Java poultry farmers report that the government’s free nutritious meal program (MBG), implemented through Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), has not yet significantly increased demand for chicken meat. Farmers state the current absorption rate of chicken meat by the SPPG is insufficient to meaningfully impact the industry. The program aims to provide nutritious meals to students, but producers claim the volume of chicken purchased hasn’t substantially altered market dynamics. Concerns exist regarding the program’s scale and its ability to effectively support local poultry businesses. Industry representatives are seeking further dialogue with the government to address these issues and optimize the program’s impact. They hope increased procurement will provide a more substantial boost to the sector and ensure program sustainability. Further evaluation of the program’s implementation is needed to assess its effectiveness in supporting both student nutrition and the poultry industry.
