Over 30 municipalities across six Portuguese districts – Bragança, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Coimbra, and Portalegre – are currently at maximum risk of rural wildfires. The warning was issued by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). This highest level of alert indicates extremely hazardous conditions conducive to the rapid spread of fire. The affected areas are located in the interior North and Centre regions of the country. Authorities have not yet reported any active wildfires, but are urging increased vigilance and preparedness. Residents are advised to take extra precautions to prevent fires and to be ready to evacuate if necessary. The IPMA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
