Following Macky Sall’s withdrawal from the race for the position of UN Secretary-General, a call has emerged for his return to lead the Alliance for the Republic (APR) party in Senegal. Abdou Khafor Touré, former Director General of the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, publicly urged Sall to reclaim leadership of the APR during a general assembly held in Koumpentoum. Despite some departures from the party in the Koumpentoum area, Touré emphasized continued grassroots support for President Sall and the need for replacements for those who have left. He framed Sall’s withdrawal from the UN candidacy as a positive opportunity for the APR to refocus on upcoming electoral victories. The meeting, overseen by APR regional coordinator and former Prime Minister Sidiki Kaba, included high-ranking officials such as Minister of State Augustin Tine and former deputies Aliou Dembourou Sow and Yaye Fatou Diagne, all expressing support for Sall’s potential return to the party. Touré lauded Kaba’s local engagement and suitability for continued trust from President Sall.
