Polish prosecutors have decided not to investigate allegations of defamation made by politician Antoni Macierewicz against Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. The case stemmed from a parliamentary address where Sikorski referred to Macierewicz as “a madman” (świr). Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Piotr Antoni Skiba confirmed the decision to close the investigation. Prosecutors determined the statement, while offensive, did not meet the legal threshold for criminal defamation. Macierewicz, a prominent figure in the Law and Justice (PiS) party, had filed a complaint following Sikorski’s remarks. The decision concludes the legal proceedings regarding this specific incident, highlighting the complexities of balancing free speech and protection against personal attacks within the political sphere.
