Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party, has announced he will return a Ukrainian honor – the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. This decision follows a recent escalation in tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv, stemming from a dispute over commemorating the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Earlier, Polish President Karol Nawrocki revoked the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Nawrocki stated the revocation reflects a stance towards the Ukrainian leadership and loyalty to the Polish president. The reciprocal actions signal a significant deterioration in Polish-Ukrainian relations. The dispute centers on differing historical interpretations and the honoring of controversial figures. These moves are widely seen as politically motivated amid ongoing geopolitical pressures.
