A recent audit by Poland’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK) revealed excessively long working hours for doctors in hospitals providing maternity care. Some physicians worked continuous shifts exceeding 24 hours, with the longest recorded duty stretching to 96 hours. The findings raise concerns about healthcare worker wellbeing and potential impacts on patient care. NIK has announced follow-up inspections across the healthcare sector, including at the Warsaw South Hospital. These investigations will also focus on staffing levels and compensation for medical personnel. The audit highlights systemic issues within the Polish healthcare system regarding workload and resource allocation. Authorities aim to address these problems through further scrutiny and analysis of current practices.
