The National Liberal Party (PNL) held a technical meeting on Saturday at Romexpo ahead of Sunday's Extraordinary Congress. A primary objective of the upcoming congress is to modify the party's statute. Saturday served as the deadline for submitting candidacy motions, with Ilie Bolojan officially announcing his bid for party leadership. However, the process has been marred by internal tension. Adrian Veştea, who previously expressed interest in running, has now withdrawn his candidacy. Veştea condemned the proceedings as a "democratic simulacrum" and an attempt to establish a dictatorship within the party. He further claimed the congress is illegal and non-statutory. Consequently, Veştea is considering various legal and statutory challenges to contest the event.
