Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an investigation into the non-functional CTA machine at the cardiology department of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) following issues with former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s medical check-up. Khan was brought to PIMS for tests, including a CT angiography, but the procedure couldn't be completed due to the machine’s unavailability. A committee, led by the Establishment Division secretary, has been formed to determine the facts and assign responsibility for the lapse. Hospital officials state Khan arrived without prior notice or patient registration, contributing to the confusion and lack of preparation. While a functional CTA machine existed in the radiology department, it wasn't utilized during Khan’s brief stay. The Cardiac Centre’s CTA machine has been out of service since 2011, leaving conventional angiography as the only option at that facility. Khan was subsequently returned to Adiala jail after the incomplete examination.
