The Philippines is nearing accession to the Tokyo Convention, an agreement focused on the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications. This move, announced by Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Shirley Agrupis, aims to simplify the process for Filipino students and professionals seeking educational and employment opportunities abroad. Joining the convention will facilitate the assessment of Philippine degrees in other member countries and vice versa, reducing bureaucratic hurdles. It is expected to enhance the international competitiveness of Filipino graduates and attract more foreign students to the Philippines. The Tokyo Convention currently includes countries across Asia, Europe, and North America. This development signals a commitment to aligning Philippine higher education standards with international norms and fostering greater academic mobility.
