Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III of the Philippines has introduced Senate Bill No. 2510, which aims to reduce the age requirement for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials. Currently, SK officials in the Philippines must be 18 years old; the proposed bill would lower this to 15. Sotto’s proposal stipulates that SK officials must be between 15 and 21 years old on election day. The legislation seeks to broaden participation and offer younger Filipinos a voice in local governance. The move intends to capture the perspectives of a younger demographic within the Sangguniang Kabataan framework in the Philippines. Further debate and consideration within the Senate are expected before any changes are enacted.
