YouTuber PewDiePie has introduced Ajax, a new artificial intelligence model intended to function locally on users’ machines via his Odysseus platform. The development of Ajax was reportedly hampered by two account suspensions from OpenAI, with one communication referencing “distillation” as the reason. The AI is based on Alibaba’s Qwen3.5-9B and is designed for routine tasks, prioritizing user freedom. Despite the unveiling, Ajax is still under development, lacking finalized benchmarks, detailed hardware specifications, and publicly available downloadable weights. PewDiePie’s move suggests a desire for greater control and a less regulated AI environment. The project underscores growing interest in self-hosted AI solutions as alternatives to major platforms like OpenAI.
