Peru’s Attorney General’s Office has officially included the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office as a “harmed party” in the legal proceedings against Jaime Villanueva and Miguel Girao, former advisors to ex-Attorney General Patricia Benavides, along with 24 others. This designation allows the Procuraduría to actively participate in the case and seek civil reparations should the accused be found responsible for alleged crimes. The charges include accusations of criminal organization and related offenses currently under investigation by the Fiscalía. Consequently, the Anti-Corruption Office can now request and potentially receive financial compensation if a civil penalty is levied against the defendants. This move signals a strengthened effort to address corruption allegations stemming from the case involving the former top prosecutor and her associates. The investigation continues as authorities attempt to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal activity.
