Peru’s government has dismissed the possibility of private management for state oil company Petroperú, according to Mining Minister Guillermo Shinno. The focus will initially be on achieving self-sustainability for Petroperú’s various business lines, including the Talara refinery. Minister Shinno stated that private management is “not being considered at this time.” However, he did not entirely rule out alternative schemes in the future. If any of the company’s operations fail to become profitable, a private management model could be revisited. The government prioritizes making Petroperú financially independent before considering external management options. This approach aims to stabilize the company’s finances and ensure its continued operation as a state-owned enterprise.
