Patrick Vieira has returned to Senegal after a week-long trip across Europe, visiting France, Italy, Germany, and England. The purpose of his travels was to meet individually with Senegalese international players to present his sporting project and ambitions for the national team. Even before signing his contract with the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), Vieira has begun laying the groundwork for his role, holding discussions with national technical director Souleymane Diallo and establishing a preliminary list of players for an upcoming training camp in Saly. Senegal will face Mozambique in Dakar on September 25th as part of qualifying matches, then travel to Addis Ababa to play Ethiopia on September 29th, and finally, face the Comoros at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille in a friendly match in October. A sticking point in negotiations remains Vieira’s insistence on selecting his own technical staff, refusing FSF-imposed assistants, and he is scheduled to meet with FSF President Abdoulaye Fall to resolve this issue.
