The Speaker of the National Parliament has announced that members are no longer required to bow when entering the parliamentary chamber to show respect. Instead, parliamentarians will be permitted to demonstrate respect to the Speaker’s chair according to their individual religious practices. This decision was explained by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir during the tenth day of the second budget session of the thirteenth National Parliament on Thursday, June 18th. The change aims to accommodate the diverse religious beliefs of parliament members. Previously, a formal bow was the customary gesture of respect. This new ruling provides flexibility and inclusivity within the parliamentary proceedings. The Speaker’s announcement clarifies the protocol for demonstrating deference in the parliamentary setting.
