The Wau-Waria District in Papua New Guinea has launched new programs aimed at increasing financial inclusion and economic empowerment for its residents. The initiative, spearheaded by local MP Marsh Narewec, includes the opening of a Women’s Micro Bank access point and support for Kanga Security Force Limited and cooperative capacity building. A key component is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Wau-Waria District Development Authority and the Centre for Excellence in Financial Inclusion (CEFI). The MoU was formalized by MP Narewec and Bank of Papua New Guinea Governor Elizabeth Genia, signifying a commitment to collaborative financial development. These programs are intended to provide greater access to financial services and resources, fostering economic growth within the Wau-Waria District. The launch event took place at the Wau Main Sports Oval on June 19, 2026.
