Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in Pakistan rescued a foreign woman and her children from her home in Bara following allegations of 12 years of domestic abuse and physical torture by her husband. The woman filed a complaint with police on June 18th detailing the alleged abuse, including physical violence and emotional intimidation, leading to the registration of a criminal case. Police subsequently raided the home, arresting the husband and taking the woman and children into protective custody at a women’s police station. The case is being investigated under sections of the Pakistan Penal Code related to assault, wrongful confinement, and intimidation, as well as the KP Domestic Violence against Women Act of 2021. The woman, who married her husband in 2014, expressed gratitude for the rescue and a desire to return to her home country. The incident occurs amid reported increases in domestic violence within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
