Islamabad High Court (IHC) Registrar has issued a notice to Justice Babar Sattar, directing him to vacate his official residence within 30 days, following his transfer to the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The notice stems from the cancellation of his Islamabad accommodation allotment on July 3rd, after his transfer was approved in April. Justice Sattar had previously indicated his desire to remain in Islamabad despite the transfer, foregoing a new residence in Peshawar. The IHC maintains that accommodation entitlement is linked to the position within the IHC, which he no longer holds. This situation highlights a long-standing debate concerning housing provisions for superior court judges in Pakistan. Notably, Justice Sattar authored a 2023 judgment affirming judges’ entitlement to official housing throughout their service. Attempts to deliver the notice while he was on leave were initially unsuccessful.
