A loader rickshaw carrying 24 people, returning from a wedding ceremony in Kot Addu, Pakistan, plunged into the Muzaffargarh Canal on Monday night. The accident, attributed to overspeeding, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals, including six minors. Rescue efforts, involving both Rescue 1122 and local community members, began immediately after three passengers self-rescued and alerted authorities. Divers and swimmers have been searching a 32-kilometer stretch of the canal, which is 12-15 feet deep and has a strong current. As of Tuesday, nine additional bodies were recovered, bringing the total death toll to twelve, with the search for remaining passengers ongoing. Authorities indicate the canal irrigates a vast area and has a significant water flow, complicating the rescue operation. This incident echoes a similar tragedy earlier this year in Lodhran district, where a wedding bus overturned, causing multiple casualties.
