Pakistan’s textile exports witnessed a substantial increase in the first eight months of the fiscal year 2023-24, reaching $14.236 billion, a rise from $13.486bn in the same period last year. Exporters in Faisalabad are, however, cautioning that this positive trend could be jeopardized without immediate corrective measures from the government. Key concerns raised include unresolved refund claims, delayed sales tax adjustments, and significant increases in energy tariffs. The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has highlighted these issues as detrimental to the competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile sector in the global market. They argue that the rising cost of doing business is eroding profit margins and hindering further export potential, especially with competitors in India and Bangladesh. Exporters have emphasized the need for government intervention to address these challenges, warning that continued inaction could lead to a slowdown in export growth from cities like Faisalabad and across Pakistan. Failure to act could undermine the gains made and impact the overall economic outlook of Pakistan.
