President Asif Ali Zardari awarded General Aamer Raza the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) in recognition of his service as Commander of the National Strategic Command. The investiture ceremony, held at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad, was attended by key government and military leaders including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. General Raza’s appointment to this critical role followed the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which restructured the military’s command and transferred the nuclear management responsibilities from the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. Prior to this, he held various command and staff positions, including chief of general staff and leadership roles within armored and infantry units. His career also includes overseeing organizational changes after recent conflicts and establishing the Army Rocket Force Command. Despite extensive experience in military operations and planning, Gen Raza has not previously served directly within Pakistan’s strategic missile program.
