Pakistan’s government has maintained current petrol and diesel prices for the next week, keeping petrol at Rs299.5 per litre and diesel at Rs311.47 per litre. This follows a significant reduction in prices last week, announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reflecting a decline in international oil costs. The previous reductions saw petrol decrease by Rs74 and diesel by Rs67 per litre. Fuel price adjustments in Pakistan have become weekly occurrences since concerns over potential disruptions from geopolitical tensions, specifically related to the US-Iran situation and the Strait of Hormuz, began impacting global markets. Earlier this year, prices saw substantial increases, peaking in April before being partially rolled back following public criticism and government intervention. These price fluctuations significantly affect both individual consumers and key sectors like transportation and power generation.
