The Pakistani government has announced reductions in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices, decreasing them by Rs3.39 and Rs4.07 per litre respectively. The new retail prices are Rs328.56 per litre for petrol and Rs385.86 per litre for HSD, effective August 5th. Despite the reduction, substantial taxes and duties remain, at Rs110 per litre for petrol and Rs96 for diesel. These price adjustments follow peaks reached in April, triggered by rising concerns over the US-Iran conflict. The government initially responded with weekly price revisions and fuel conservation measures. Recently, a shift to daily price adjustments was announced due to international market fluctuations and ongoing geopolitical tensions, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) now responsible for setting daily rates.
