Pakistan has facilitated the repatriation of 22 Iranian sailors from the M/T Davina, a tanker seized by the United States in April during a naval blockade targeting vessels linked to Iran. This marks the fourth group of Iranian crew members Pakistan has assisted in returning home over the past two months, bringing the total number assisted to over 70. The US Navy interdicted the Davina and other vessels, including the M/V Touska, as part of efforts to disrupt Iranian shipping, even in international waters. Following negotiations with both US and Iranian authorities, Pakistan coordinated the sailors’ transfer and safe passage. The Touska container ship was also brought to Pakistan for repairs before being returned to its owners. This ongoing effort highlights Pakistan’s role as an intermediary in the complex situation arising from the US-Iran maritime tensions, formalized by the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
