The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declined to recognize Mehmood Khan Achakzai as the chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) due to the party's failure to hold required internal elections. The ECP bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, raised questions about Achakzai’s leadership and amendments to the party’s constitution. The commission is also scrutinizing PkMAP’s financial account details. A key point of contention is the validity of a power of attorney signed by Achakzai, as his position as party head is unconfirmed without proper elections. PkMAP previously held intra-party elections in 2022, but failed to meet subsequent deadlines for new elections despite reminders and a granted extension. The ECP rejected a further extension request, solidifying its stance on the need for timely internal party polls.
