The Lahore High Court dismissed a petition requesting the transfer of the case regarding the death of nine-year-old Hania Ahmed from local police to the Federal Investigation Agency. Hania was killed during a shootout in Chakwal when Punjab’s Crime Control Department mistakenly identified her family’s vehicle as belonging to robbers. The family, Pakistani-origin Australians, had expressed concerns about potential bias in a police investigation due to the involvement of fellow officers. The court directed provincial authorities to conduct a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigation and to prosecute the responsible officials according to the law. Punjab authorities informed the court that a First Information Report had been filed against the officers involved, and both departmental and legal actions were in progress. The court emphasized the need for the police to demonstrate institutional integrity through a flawless investigation and warned against leniency for those responsible. Police officials have stated the incident will not be covered up.
