A two-day international conference addressing Pakistan’s severe nutrition crisis has begun in Islamabad. The conference, titled ‘Act For Nutrition,’ focuses on the alarming rates of stunting—affecting over 40% of children under five—and high maternal mortality. Malnutrition is costing Pakistan an estimated $17 billion annually, posing a significant threat to the nation’s future. Policymakers, development leaders, and health experts are collaborating to move beyond statistics and identify practical solutions. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of human development as the foundation for national progress, highlighting a commitment from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Speakers also acknowledged the regional variations in the nature of the nutrition crisis across Pakistan, requiring tailored interventions.
