Pakistan strongly condemned recent Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s civilian and economic infrastructure during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate on the Middle East. Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s acting Permanent Representative, called for an immediate cessation of these attacks and reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for Saudi Arabia’s security and right to self-defence. The statement comes amidst escalating regional tensions following the collapse of a UN-brokered truce in Yemen, which reignited the civil war in July. Pakistan also voiced its support for the UN special envoy’s efforts to resume dialogue for a lasting peace in Yemen, a conflict the UN describes as creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Furthermore, Pakistan expressed concern over settler violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and opposes attempts to annex occupied Palestinian territory. The attacks on Saudi Arabia, including a deadly strike on Riyadh’s international airport, mark a dramatic escalation in the conflict.
