Pakistan’s meteorological department has forecast widespread rain and thundershowers with gusty winds across the upper and central regions of the country from August 17-21. The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an advisory highlighting potential risks including urban flooding in cities like Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Lahore. Landslides are also a concern in mountainous areas such as Murree and Galyat. The PDMA has warned citizens, particularly tourists and farmers, to take necessary precautions, including livestock care and adjusting agricultural plans. District administrations have been directed to prepare for effective disaster response, ensuring adequate staffing and coordination. The current weather patterns are attributed to ongoing monsoon currents and an approaching westerly wave. These conditions are expected to bring occasional breaks in the rainfall but pose a significant risk to vulnerable areas.
