Pakistan and Russia have agreed to finalize an extradition treaty and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on preventing organized crime and facilitating information exchange. This understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokolstev, who is currently on a four-day visit – the first of its kind by a Russian interior minister to Pakistan. Both countries pledged to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including enhancing collaboration between their respective anti-narcotics forces and police academies regarding cybercrime prevention. They also aim to streamline the process for the exchange of criminals and implement a readmission agreement promptly. Discussions also included the potential for skilled Pakistani manpower to work in Russia and easing visa procedures for tourists and business travelers. Working groups from both interior ministries will soon conduct reciprocal visits to further these initiatives.
