Restoration work at Magdeburg Cathedral in Germany is yielding new archaeological discoveries concerning the tomb of Emperor Otto I, also known as Otto the Great. The project, led by the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation and the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology, began in January 2025 to address significant damage to the burial site. Experts are carefully conserving and examining the tomb, uncovering previously unknown details about its construction and history. The ongoing work aims to preserve this important historical monument for future generations. Further findings are anticipated as the restoration progresses, potentially shedding light on the life and reign of the first Holy Roman Emperor.
