The story of Orpheus and Eurydike centers on the grief of Orpheus following his wife Eurydike’s death. Driven by his sorrow, the exceptionally talented musician undertakes a perilous journey to the Underworld. His aim is to persuade Hades, the god of the Underworld, to return Eurydike to the land of the living. Orpheus’s musical skill and emotional plea successfully move Hades, who agrees to release Eurydike with a crucial condition: Orpheus must not look back at her during their ascent. Tragically, overcome with doubt and longing, Orpheus breaks this condition, resulting in Eurydike’s second and final death.
