A Dutch nurse has been permanently barred from practicing healthcare due to a severe alcohol addiction and multiple instances of professional misconduct. The Health Disciplinary Board revoked the nurse’s registration after evidence surfaced of continued practice despite prior dismissal and a criminal conviction for theft of painkillers. The nurse repeatedly performed medical procedures while intoxicated, including administering an IV to an unconscious patient using a fraudulently obtained hospital pass. He also falsely presented himself as a first responder at an event while under the influence, leading to police intervention. Authorities documented numerous incidents of inappropriate medical actions, disregard for protocols, and a lack of accountability. The board cited a persistent lack of self-awareness regarding his addiction and the danger it posed to patients. The Health Care and Youth Inspectorate had already restricted his practice in 2025.
