The Norwegian Union of Civil Services (NTL) confirmed a ransomware attack targeting its central IT systems on June 16th. The breach compromised sensitive data, including personal information of members. Attackers potentially accessed names, addresses, contact details, national identification numbers, bank account details, and case-related information. NTL has notified its members and is cooperating with Norway’s Data Protection Authority, the National Security Authority (NSM), and Kripos (the National Criminal Investigation Service) to investigate the incident. External cybersecurity experts and IT providers are also assisting in the response. The full extent of the data compromised is still being determined, but the union is treating the incident with high seriousness. Members have been advised to be vigilant regarding potential phishing attempts and identity theft.
