Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has successfully undergone a lung transplant, the Royal House announced Wednesday. The 52-year-old princess, wife of Prince Haakon, the heir to the Norwegian throne, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. This chronic and incurable condition causes scarring of the lungs and reduces oxygen intake. The Royal House stated the princess is recovering following the procedure. Details regarding the donor remain confidential, and Princess Mette-Marit likely will not be informed of their identity. The transplant offers hope for improved health and quality of life for the princess, who has previously discussed her struggles with the debilitating illness.
