Approximately 300 children of Norwegian missionaries have been awarded compensation for hardships experienced while living in boarding schools during their parents’ foreign missions. This fourth round of settlements saw 74 additional children receive redress, totaling 9.6 million kroner in this round alone. The “Sendt Bort” support group reports that around 41.6 million kroner has been distributed since the program’s establishment in 2024. The compensation scheme provides not only an apology but also acknowledges the harm suffered and accepts responsibility. Anne Marit Naustvik, leader of Sendt Bort, emphasizes the importance of concrete action alongside apologies. The program currently encompasses children from 14 different missionary organizations. The redress aims to provide justice for the challenging experiences these children faced due to their parents’ missionary work.
