Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit has successfully undergone a lung transplant, the royal house announced today. The 52-year-old wife of Crown Prince Haakon has been battling pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic condition causing scarring of the lungs, since 2018. Her health had deteriorated significantly in recent times, with doctors estimating a life expectancy of approximately one year without the procedure. She was placed on the waiting list for a transplant earlier this month at Oslo University Hospital. The operation was successful, and the princess is currently recovering in the hospital, where she will remain for the coming weeks, according to Professor Are Holm. The royal house has released a statement confirming her condition and recovery process.
