A new timber building, named Mjøstårn, has opened in Brumunddal, Norway, and is now the country’s tallest timber construction. Reaching a height of 85.4 meters (280 feet), Mjøstårn surpasses the previous record holder, Treet in Bergen. The 18-story structure combines hotel, apartments, and office spaces, demonstrating the potential of timber as a sustainable building material. Construction utilized glulam (glued laminated timber) and cross-laminated timber (CLT). The project aimed to showcase environmentally friendly building practices and promote the use of renewable resources in construction. Mjøstårn’s completion marks a significant milestone in the development of modern timber architecture in Scandinavia and beyond, challenging conventional construction methods. The building is expected to contribute to a reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional concrete or steel structures.
