Following a crisis meeting in the EU, Norway’s Minister of Justice and Preparedness, Astri Aas-Hansen, stated the situation in Ceuta served as a test of European solidarity. She expressed support for Spain’s handling of the recent migrant crisis, emphasizing their efforts in rescuing lives and managing large-scale arrivals. However, 22 EU leaders voiced serious concerns regarding the situation in an open letter. While acknowledging these worries, Aas-Hansen underscored the necessity of controlling EU’s external borders. Spain has faced criticism over its management of the EU and Schengen border. According to Spanish authorities, 72,000 migrants crossed the border, with 70,000 having been returned.
