Norway has formally protested to Israel regarding reports of violent treatment of activists who attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza in May. Approximately 430 activists, including four Norwegians, participated in the effort using 50 small boats. Israeli forces intercepted the vessels in international waters and transported the activists to Israel for detention. Following a week in custody, most activists were released, with numerous individuals alleging mistreatment during their captivity. Several activists required hospitalization, including Norwegian citizens, and at least 45 reported experiencing sexual assault. The Norwegian government’s complaint reflects serious concerns over the alleged abuses suffered by the aid workers.
