Norway’s Directorate for Security and Emergency Management (DSB) is initiating nationwide exercises to prepare municipalities for potential wartime conditions. Each municipality will receive a tailored scenario based on its geographic location and regional characteristics. The drills aim to test local crisis management’s ability to maintain essential services – including water, electricity, and healthcare – during conflict. DSB Director Lars Jacob Hiim emphasized the critical role of municipalities in continuing to function as normal for residents, even in wartime. The exercises focus on the challenging task of providing consistent services amidst potential disruptions. This initiative underscores a proactive approach to national security and civil preparedness across all regions of Norway. The scenarios are designed to be realistic and demanding, ensuring municipalities are equipped to respond effectively to a crisis.
