The foreign ministry of northern Cyprus has condemned the European Union for what it perceives as a continuation of the isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots. Officials dismissed recent statements from the European Commission regarding dialogue and previous pledges to lift restrictions as misleading, asserting a “false impression” of advancement. The ministry specifically criticized the EU for a lack of tangible action to address the situation. This accusation highlights ongoing tensions between northern Cyprus, recognized solely by Turkey, and the EU. The statement suggests a deepening frustration with the EU’s approach to the region and a perceived failure to deliver on commitments. This dispute centers on restrictions impacting the Turkish Cypriot community and their engagement with the wider European landscape. The issue continues to be a significant point of contention in relations between the two entities.
