The Barito Utara Regency government in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, has initiated an inventory and data collection process for artisanal and small-scale mining activities within the region. This effort is a crucial step towards preparing a proposal for a designated Mining Area (Wilayah Pertambangan Rakyat - WPR). The initiative aims to formally recognize and regulate the numerous small-scale mining operations currently underway. Data collected will detail the scope and nature of these activities. The WPR designation is intended to provide a legal framework for these miners, fostering responsible mining practices. This process is expected to benefit both the local economy and environmental sustainability. The collected data will be instrumental in securing official approval for the WPR proposal.
