A norovirus outbreak has sickened 125 people aboard the cruise ship “Ruby Princess” during a 20-day tour of Canada and Alaska. The outbreak affected 102 passengers and 23 crew members, with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. The ship underwent a thorough cleaning and disinfection in San Francisco, conducted after docking, to prevent further spread. The cleaning was overseen by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Princess Cruises, the ship’s operator, confirmed over 4,000 people were on board during the affected voyage. A new cruise departed on the same day following the sanitation procedures. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus causing gastrointestinal illness.
