Nigerian authorities in Borno State have reintegrated almost 10,000 former Boko Haram combatants into society through a government-supported rehabilitation and deradicalization program. The announcement followed a graduation ceremony for 720 ex-militants at a rehabilitation center in the state capital. This brings the total number of reintegrated insurgents to 9,680, according to Borno officials. The program is part of a broader Nigerian effort to weaken jihadist groups operating in the Lake Chad region by encouraging fighters to surrender and return to civilian life. The Boko Haram insurgency, ongoing for over a decade, has caused tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions. While military operations have diminished the group’s operational capacity, factions continue to launch attacks. Officials emphasize that rehabilitation and reintegration programs are crucial for ending the conflict and fostering long-term stability in affected communities.
