Nigeria’s National Pension Commission (PenCom) is initiating a partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to include an estimated nine million transport workers in the nation’s pension system. The collaboration focuses on enrolling workers into the Personal Pension Plan (PPP) under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). This move aims to extend pension coverage to a significant segment of the informal sector workforce. Discussions regarding the implementation of this partnership were initiated during a recent courtesy visit. The initiative seeks to provide financial security for transport workers upon retirement. Details of the specific enrollment process and contribution structure are yet to be fully disclosed. This expansion represents a substantial effort to broaden pension access across Nigeria.
