Nigeria and Ethiopia have formalized an agreement for the transfer of 100 Nigerian citizens currently imprisoned in Ethiopia. The deal allows these inmates to complete their sentences in Nigeria, their country of origin. A Nigerian delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi, met with Ethiopian officials in Addis Ababa to ratify the agreement. Both governments describe the accord as a major step forward in consular and judicial cooperation. The agreement aims to streamline the process of managing citizens detained abroad and ensure their access to family support during incarceration. Details regarding the specific crimes committed by the prisoners were not disclosed. This initiative reflects a growing trend of bilateral agreements focused on prisoner exchange and welfare.
