The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) have formalized a partnership to combat the increasing problem of tobacco smuggling within the country. The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aims to strengthen regulatory oversight and protect legitimate tobacco businesses operating in Nigeria. Key objectives include disrupting illicit trade networks and enhancing enforcement efforts against counterfeit and illegally imported tobacco products. Both organizations will collaborate on information sharing, training initiatives, and joint operations to achieve these goals. This collaboration seeks to safeguard government revenue, protect public health, and ensure fair competition within the tobacco industry. The MOU represents a proactive step towards addressing the economic and health risks associated with the illegal tobacco trade in Nigeria.
