The government of Bangladesh has announced the formation of Mokamtala Municipality, just two months after establishing Mokamtala as a new sub-district (upazila) carved out of Bogura’s Shibganj Upazila. A notification issued on Wednesday by the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry declares ten villages as part of the newly formed urban area. The announcement, signed by Deputy Secretary Ashfikun Nahar of the Local Government Division’s Municipal Branch-2 on June 23rd, signifies a rapid administrative expansion in the region. Mokamtala Upazila was initially created on April 12th, comprising four unions from the former Shibganj Upazila. This swift transition to include a municipality suggests a focused effort to develop infrastructure and services in the newly designated area. Further details regarding the municipal boundaries and administrative structure are expected to be released. The move aims to improve local governance and facilitate development within Mokamtala.
